Quick hint: in every Daily Orbs puzzle, each item is used exactly once. Lock in the pairs you are sure of, then look for an item that only one partner can fit. Elimination solves the rest.
The three-step hint ladder
- Hint 1: shrink the boardLock in every pair you are completely sure of. With ten items a side, three certain pairs leave a seven-by-seven puzzle, which is far easier to reason about.
- Hint 2: find the forced matchLook for an item on the right that only one item on the left could possibly fit (or the reverse). Forced matches are free, and each one forces the next.
- Hint 3: test one pairPick the pair you are least sure of and ask what the subtitle says a match means. If the pair breaks that rule, swap it. Only if you are still stuck, look up a single item.
Hints by puzzle type
Daily Orbs mixes four kinds of puzzle most days. Each kind has its own shortcut.
Word and language puzzles
e.g. "Word Recognition": match a term to how its popularity changed in books
Think about when a word entered everyday speech. Tech and slang words rise late; formal and old-fashioned words fall. Pair the steepest curves first.
Science and medicine puzzles
e.g. "Doctor Speak": match a clinical term to its common name
Split each term into Greek or Latin parts: dys- (difficult), hyper- (too much), di- (two), -opia (vision), -rrhea (flow), -phagia (eating). Most terms decode in seconds.
Geography and flag puzzles
e.g. "Lokalflaggen": match cities and regions to their flags
National colours often repeat in regional flags, and city coats of arms carry symbols (a bear, a key, a ship) that hint at the name or history. Group by country first.
Books, film and culture puzzles
e.g. "The Monster Enters": match a story to its unsettling encounter
Anchor on the most famous title you know, then use era and setting: a Gothic castle, a whaling ship or a Victorian lab each narrow the options.
Worked hint example: Doctor Speak III
In this puzzle from 29 October 2026 you match ten clinical terms to their everyday names. Here is how the hint ladder plays out, without giving the whole answer away:
- Hint 1: "Diplopia" contains di- (two) and -opia (vision). One common name fits instantly.
- Hint 2: "Rhinorrhea" has rhino- (nose). Only one everyday name is about the nose.
- Hint 3: "Pyrexia" shares a root with pyro (fire). Which common name is about heat?
